CAUCASUS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY

 

About University 

25 years have passed since Caucasus International University (CIU) – LLC was founded. The University operates as a Legal Entity of Private Law - a limited liability company. The university was founded as a medical institute “Clinitsist” in 1995. The university received a license from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Georgia in the same year. In 2005 it was granted Accreditation by Accreditation Council of Higher Education Institution. In 2006, the name and founders of the institute “Clinitsist” were changed and it was formed as a multi-profile higher education institution – Caucasus International University – LLC.

Caucasus International University went through the authorization process with great success and has been granted authorization for six years by the joint decision of the Authorization Council of the National Center for Education Quality Enhancement In 2018 (14.11.2018 decision #88). The highest assessment document was issued among the higher educational institutions of Georgia.

Caucasus International University – LLC was granted an institutional accreditation for 5 years on the basis of the decision made by the Accreditation Council of Higher Education Institution in 2007. Afterward, CIU was granted Authorization for 5 years on the basis of the decision made by the Authorization Council of HEI of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement in 2012. During the period of the last authorization (from 2012 – till present) up to 30 Undergraduate, One- cycle, Post-graduate and Ph.D. Educational Programs of Caucasus International University LLC were granted accreditation.

By the decision of the Authorization Council of National Centre for Educational Quality Enhancement made on 14 July 2015 Caucasus International University application has been approved and in accordance with the decision of the council the number of university students has been defined by 4700.

“Leader of 2018” - Caucasus International University was nominated at the 48th National Business Leaders Award Ceremony. The event was organized by Georgian National Business Ratings Union and Swiss Rating Association.

On March 4, 2019, by the unanimous decision of the Accreditation Council members of Higher Educational Programmes of National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, the number of CIU students has increased by 2700 and has been defined in total by 7400.

CIU offers Bachelor, One-step, Master, and Doctoral programs.

Students are required to apply for Long Term Visa (Immigration Visa, type D) for study purposes. For this, a student must be enrolled at Caucasus International University and hold an official enrollment letter.

Enrollment procedure takes up to 3 weeks and the visa processing – up to 4 weeks.

Caucasus International University (CIU) is a Higher Education Institution based on national values and focused on constant changes. University history dates back to 1995. It is a higher education institution equipped with modern infrastructure and technology and oriented towards integration with international educational field and constant renewal.

CIU implements undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs in Georgian, English and Russian languages.

Five leading and modern Faculties - of Business, Law, Social Sciences, Medicine and Viticulture-Winemaking were created on the basis of University with the common effort of founders and a team of well-known and experienced scientists. The faculties offer highly-qualified academic staff and Scientific-Research Centres in compliance with international standards.

CIU offers fascinating student life full of varieties, such as: public lectures by well-known scientists and successful representatives of different fields;expeditions in Georgia and abroad.  Students can participate in various sections existing at university according to their interests and talent, for example: musical bands, art clubs (drawing, Georgian Traditional Dancing and Singing), wine theatre, sports clubs and quiz contests.

University Student Self-Government is actively involved in improving and developing these processes. They have designed and implemented a wide range of significant projects. One of the most successful projects is “Student Life”, which has been underway for two years. University has powerful Self –Government, which collaborates with state, as well as private organizations. Consequently, university students have been offered to participate in implementing various significant and interesting projects a number of times. Student Self-Government -one of the most important sections of the university – promotes students’ active engagement both in scientific and cultural-recreational directions. The fields of their interests include: education, science, sport, tourism, protecting students’ rights, culture, elaborating different projects, etc.

- What is the application deadline?

For fall semester – August 15th, for spring semester – February 15th.

 - What are the required documents for application?

For Individuals with Secondary Education:

  1. A copy of a document verifying citizenship (Passport);

  2. A copy of document verifying the completion of general secondary education acquired abroad or its equivalent degree;

  3. A filled-in application form;

  4. 2 photos 3x4 cm in size.

Note: If an applicant is minor (under age of 18), a copy of the birth certificate, copies of parents’ passports and a letter of attorney (consent on enrollment) of a parent who is in an applicant’s birth certificate must also be sent. A letter of attorney must be a document showing a parent’s consent for his/her child living and studying abroad for some period. 

For Individuals who Want to Transfer from other Higher Educational Institution:

  1. A copy of a document verifying citizenship (Passport);

  2. A copy of document verifying credits gained at foreign educational institution;

  3. A document showing a student’s residence in a specific country (the duration and dates of the residence must coincide with the duration and dates of studying);

  4. A filled in application form.

For Individuals who are Interested in MA Programs:

  1. A copy of a document verifying citizenship (passport);

  2. A BA degree document (diploma, its supplement or a BA qualification certificate and a transcript of records);

  3. A filled in application form;

  4. 2 photos 3x4 cm in size.

Documents must be translated into Georgian, certified by notary.

 - What is the language of instruction?

The language of instruction on the programs offered for international students is English.

 - What is the duration of the programs?

  1. Undergraduate program duration is 4 years;

  2. Graduate program duration – 2 years;

  3. One step program duration - 5 years (Dental);6 years (Medical).

Admission procedure includes the following steps:

An applicant submits all necessary documents translated and notarized along with the receipt certifying the payment of validation fee paid directly to the National Centre for Educational Quality Enhancement (EQE);

University prepares all documents in order to send it to the EQE for validation which is the basis of the enrollment. Validation of the foreign education takes around 3-4 weeks.

When the validation document is issued by the EQE, Ministry of Education and Science start the enrollment procedures which takes approximately 14 business days. After this procedure, Minister of Education and Science issues the decree on enrollment which will be sent to the University. After that, an applicant will be officially a student of Caucasus International University.

 - What are foreign language requirements for University admission?

For applicants, it is obligatory to present a document which proves that an applicant passed English language B2 level or equivalent. If an applicant cannot present the document, the University will conduct English language examination.

 - How much is the application fee?

Application fees is defined by 200 USD.

 

The fees include:

  1. Translation of a documents into Georgian language;

  2. Notarization of documents;

  3. Fees for submitting document at National Centre for Education Quality Enhancement.

 Note: An application fees (200 USD) cannot be refunded in case an applicant withdraws his/her application or the Ministry rejects enrolment.

 - What are the average living expenses in Georgia,  monthly food cost, monthly residence cost and also any other fees?

A one bedroom apartment in the center of Tbilisi is likely to cost around 300 USD a month.  A similar, small property outside of the city could be secured for around 170 USD per month.

Around 200-300 USD per month is required to meet expenditures on food, transportation, cell phone and other personal needs.

 - How can I check my application status?

If an applicant wants to check some information, he/she can send a request at international@ciu.edu.ge. Mailbox is checked regularly during the business days from 10 am to 6 pm (GEO time).

 - Where is it possible to obtain residence permit and what are the required documents?

A residence card may be obtained at a corresponding branch of the Public Service Development Agency or Public Service Hall.

Required documents are:

  • Application form;

  • Photocopy of a student’s travel document;

  • Photocopy of the document evidencing the student’s legal stay in Georgia;

  • Certificate issued by the educational institution authorized in Georgia confirming the student is studying at the institution;

  • Document evidencing legal income earned in Georgia by a student and/or by a citizen of Georgia or by his/her relative having the right of residence in Georgia and a document confirming kinship with that person. The money in an alien’s personal bank account may also be considered income;Taking into account the duration of a residence permit for study purposes, the monthly amount of money should not be less than double the amount of minimum subsistence level of an average customer in Georgia;

  • 3x4 cm photo;

  • Service fee payment receipt.

 - Why is it necessary to conduct a video interview with applicants?

Due to the fact that a command of English at B2 level (CEFR) is a precondition for being accepted in an educational program with English as a language of instruction, the following procedure was determined in compliance with Legislation of Georgia: a record of video interview with an applicant is to be submitted with the enrollment documents of a foreign student. The procedure serves as evidence that the applicant is aware of the corresponding foreign language and is able to study.

A video interview is conducted by a representative of the university via skype address provided by an applicant. The interview lasts for approximately 5 to 10 minutes and includes general questions. The interview is recorded and is applied for the procedures determined in accordance with the Legislation.

1. Visa Procedure

After the Minister’s order the university will issue a letter of invitation.

2. When should you pay tuition fees?

  • A student must pay tuition fees of the whole academic year in order to be enrolled at the univerity.

  • From the next academic year tuiton fees can be paid in four stages – at the begnning of the semester the first half, in the middle of the semester the second half and similarly in the second semester.

3. Dates of Term

  • Autumn term starts on the last Monday of September;

  • Spring term starts on the third Monday of March.

Online registration is available at Caucasus International University by filling in an application (please, click here to download the application form).

All the below mentioned documents must be sent electronically (online@ciu.edu.ge) together with the application form.

After checking the submitted documents, an online video interview is conducted with a student with the purpose of verifying a command of English and creating video recording. The interview recorded with an applicant is applied during the procedure of enrollment in state institutions and crossing the border.

An applicant will receive an official confirmation electronically on the commencement of events concerning the enrollment at the university after finalizing all the above mentioned procedures.  

All the documents must be scanned and converted into PDF format.  

Note: Online application is not available in the countries where the university has an exclusive intermediary company. These countries are: United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, United States of America, Austria, Israel and Palestine.

The deadline for submitting all the required documents:

Note: A precondition for admission to all categories of educational programs (one-step, undergraduate and postgraduate) of the university is the knowledge of English language at minimal level in order to be able to study at the program, in particular:

  • In case of presenting TOEFL or IELTS certificate, the applicant will be admitted to the relevant program without examination;

  •  Applicants who do not have certificates will have to take an examination in English language at University English Language Center;

  •  Applicants, whose native tongue is English do not have to submit certificates or pass examination.

CIU OFFERS PREPARATORY LANGUAGE COURSES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The course has been designed for international students who intend to improve English proficiency and continue studies in the study programmes offered by Caucasus International University. Through preparation course, you can gain the necessary basic knowledge to prepare for a university English language examination (B2 Level). English lessons focus on developing academic skills: listening, writing, reading and speaking, of students, necessary for passing entrance exams, research, writing essays as well as developing thinking and study skills.

Also, we offer Basics of Georgian language in order to enable future students to integrate into university and adapt to a new country.

Through the course, students will be involved in various events held at the University for cultural adaptation and integration in university student life.

The course consist of two study modules:

1) English Language Preparation (74 hours)

2) Basics of Georgian language (60 hours)

Course duration: 10 weeks

Course dates: The course starts on 18th March.

Application deadline: 10th March

Tuition fee: 800 GEL

Eligibility for admission: International students, who intend to study on undergraduate or postgraduate programs offered by Caucasus International University, with intermediate knowledge of English language (B1 level).

Course

Living

Living in Tbilisi is relatively cheap in general, but you can save even more by staying outside of the city center and living like a local. According to Airbnb, Tbilisi is the cheapest city for renting an entire apartment. Some of them are even quite cute. Prices start from $15 per night.

Dining

Dining at the University - CIU Cafeteria

CIU cafeteria is the largest student-dining hall in University for students, staff and guests. There are about 300 seats, which exposes students to new cuisines and cultures, and also reflects the different tastes of students who come to Caucasus International University from all over the country and the world. It is very helpful for students who are living alone.

CIU cafeteria is located on the 1st floor of the university.

Opening hours: Monday – Saturday, 10:00 am – 18:00 pm

In Tbilisi, there is an incredible number of attractive restaurants and cafes in the city center and you can find them at every step! The cost of food will depend on the venue and how often you eat out. However, there are relatively cheap places to eat traditional and Asian cuisine. On average a person needs around 20-25 Laris ($7-9) per meal, which might include a couple of dishes and a drink.

 

Travel and Transportation

The location of Caucasus International University educational buildings is convenient for everyone and they are easily accessible from all districts of Tbilisi. There is a metro station 1 kilometer away from the University and various buses and minibuses pass the university.

Transportation here in Tbilisi includes minibuses, called Marshutka, which cost 80 Tetris (29 ¢) per ride, while bus and metro rides cost 50 Tetris (18 ¢). However, if you have a MetroMoney card, you can travel by bus and metro for free for 90 minutes after buying the ticket. Paying with the card on Marshutka reduces your subsequent trips each day to 65 Tetris (24 ¢) during the day.

Taxi service is quite inexpensive in Georgia. The taxi fee starts from 2 GEL (80 cents) on average and you have to pay about 60-80 tetri (25-33 cents) per kilometer.
